Music Department Concert to Heavily Feature Guests

Concert season is heating up, and this semester will feature several guest artists.

First up, Dr. John Wiles will be guest conducting on tomorrow’s Choral Concert. Dr. Wiles visits from University of Northern Iowa.

Secondly, the Raleigh Civic Symphony will be presenting their highly anticipated East Coast premiere of Richard Blackford’s Great Animal Orchestra Symphony on Sunday, April 17th. The celebrated composer will be in attendance, and will speak both during the concert and in a panel immediately following the performance. More information can be found here.

Next, the Wind Ensemble will be hosting guest conductor Thomas Fraschillo. The concert will also feature the North Carolina premiere of Of Our New Day Begun, written by Omar Thomas in memoriam for the victims of the shooting at Emmanuel AME Church last summer.

Finally, the Raleigh Civic Chamber Orchestra will host acclaimed voice actor Harry Shearer, who will narrate Peter and the Wolf with the orchestra. Our own Dr. Jonathan Kramer will also be featured as a soloist on Ernst von Dohnanyi’s Konzertstuck for cello and orchestra.
