NC State Jazz Ensemble II to honor Miles Davis 11/20

The NC State Jazz Ensemble II will honor  “the most revered jazz trumpeter of all time, not to mention one of the most important musicians of the 20th century” (Rolling Stone) with a night of all Miles Davis music on November 20th.

The show, aptly titled Miles Ahead, will feature plenty of Miles Davis’s original standards, as well as tunes composed by his “sidemen”- Charlie Parker, John Coltraine, and several other highly regarded jazz musicians  –  who became almost equally important in the trajectory of Davis’s career.

“Beginning with Birth of the Cool in 1949, Miles Davis’s career spanned nearly every genre of jazz at one point or another,” said Dr. Wes Parker, Director of Jazz Studies and Jazz Ensembles at NC State. The Jazz Fusion Combo will also be performing several Miles Davis inspired songs.

Students and community members can find ticketing information at tickets.arts.ncsu.edu. The show begins at 7pm in Stewart Theatre (Talley Student Union).
