The Arts Entrepreneurship Minor is a 15 credit-hour curriculum designed to help student arts entrepreneurs leverage a broad knowledge base to create successful arts ventures. Using a focus on informed decision-making and experiential learning, this is the first and most comprehensive program of its kind in the country.
Is the Arts Entrepreneurship Minor for you?
Use your entire education
The minor challenges you to discover and channel your entire education, including the concepts and skills you learn through your non-arts major, into an entrepreneurial arts career.
If you’re interested in music, theater, dance, art and design, communications or marketing for the arts, or have ideas for new arts inventions, designs or products, the minor is the first step in understanding how to best position your ideas in the arts marketplace.
Collaborate with peers
Collaboration and teamwork are critical for any emerging arts entrepreneur. The capstone course focuses on teamwork while the remainder of the courses focus on entrepreneurial collaboration.
By learning to help other students with their dreams, empowerment and confidence emerge for both parties. Developing this self-efficacy is crucial to sustaining and scaling any entrepreneurial venture.
Only at NC State
Many students possess arts training prior to attending NC State and remain engaged in arts activities and courses. But it’s not just the artist who creates art. Innovative ideas from many disciplines aid in the production of art.
The minor serves students who want to explore intersections between their major, art and entrepreneurship. Emerging arts entrepreneurs need to be able to communicate to—and understand— the market of artists they are trying to serve. This interdisciplinary approach only happens at NC State.
What is the admissions process?
Current NC State students can easily apply for the Arts Entrepreneurship Minor online via the Music & Arts Entrepreneurship Minor Application (coming August 1, 2020). Afterward, a Minor Advisor will contact you to discuss your goals, a plan of study, and the expectations of the Music Department. Prospective students do not need to apply to the minor in advance of their admission to the university.
