Music minor recitals

The Department of Music’s fall music minor recitals will take place on Nov. 6 and 13, 2021.

The performances by our music minors will be livestreamed on our YouTube channel via the streams below. They will remain available for viewing for one week.

Limited in-person seating is also available for the recitals in Price Music Center room 110. Free registration is required to attend in person. Registration links for each recital can be found below.

These recitals are given in partial fulfillment of the minor in music, performance track.

Will Mozhi Shen is a passionate clarinet player from China who has played clarinet for 15 years. He used to be the principal clarinet for NJUSO and has played in NC State’s Raleigh Civic Symphony and Chamber Orchestra. Will Shen also played in the woodwind quintet at NC State and does solo clarinet training with the guidance of Sam Almaguer. He majors in statistics and minors in music performance. He focuses on classic music styles and enjoys playing music from different groups of composers.

Will Mozhi Shen is a student of Samuel Almaguer, applied lecturer of clarinet.

Jared Faulk is pursuing a B.S. in computer science and minoring in jazz guitar performance with an expected graduation date of May 2022. He started playing guitar at the age of 13, after teaching himself ukulele. He started playing jazz as a second year student at NC State when he recieved encouragement from Dr. Koch and Dr. Parker. He has been continually supported by his parents, making his musical journey possible. In his time here, he has also been a part of the NC State Jazz Orchestra and Jazz Studio Combo. Without further ado, let’s rock (jazz?)!

Caroline Branan is a senior who is double majoring in marine sciences and biological sciences. She has been playing violin for over 15 years, partaking in a variety of styles. While she has focused primarily on classical and orchestral music for most of her musical career, she has dabbled in some fiddle tunes and 80s rock covers with her father’s band. When Caroline is not practicing or performing, she is either hanging out with friends or grinding through homework. After college, she hopes to go to graduate school and conduct research on marine mammal behavior and conservation.

Sharanya Ananth is a senior at NC State double majoring in environmental engineering and political science and minoring in vocal performance. Originally from Greensboro, NC, Sharanya has been passionate about music from a young age. She studied Indian Classical Music and was a member of the Greensboro Youth Chorus for 10 years. On campus, she is a soprano section leader in the State Chorale and the captain of Jawaani, the fusion a cappella group. After working for five semesters and through the pandemic, she is excited to present her recital.

Charlie Frazier is a senior in mathematics at NC State minoring in statistics and cello performance. She has played cello since her teenage years and currently studies with Kirsten Jermé. During her time at NC State, Charlie has played with the Raleigh Civic Symphony and Raleigh Civic Chamber Orchestra and continues to pursue music recreationally.

Ashley Kimble is a senior at NC State. She is majoring in animal science with a concentration in veterinary bioscience as well as minoring in vocal performance. She has loved both journeys here at NC State. She wants to one day be a large animal and small animal veterinarian, and her passion for music will always be there. She may very well be known as the singing vet because her passion for both animals and music are equal. She hopes you enjoy her performances and share this journey of music with her.

Colton Strandberg is a business major with a concentration in information technology, as well as a music minor. He received his first guitar at age 10 and music has always been an important thing in his life. He grew up in Greensboro, NC where he had many opportunities to play in different settings, through school, church and jam sessions with friends. Coming to NC State allowed him to find even more opportunities through music. In his time here he has been a member in the NC State Jazz Orchestra, Jazz Lab Band and the Studio Combo.
